Quick Aero Glass Speed Tip

Published in Windows 7 Performance Tweaks by Steve Sinchak with 98,108 views and 10 comments

The transparent glass effect in Windows 7 looks very nice but on some computers that have underpowered video adapters users will see a performance hit when running the transparent glass effect.  Animations are slow and choppy and simple tasks like moving around windows on your screen is not very smooth. One way to speed up Windows 7 and keep the benefits of Aero, such as animations, flip 3D and taskbar thumbnails, is to disable glass transparency. This helps significantly on my Windows 7 netbook that does has a weak integrated graphics chip.

  1. Click on the desktop and select Personalize.
  2. Click Windows Color.
  3. Uncheck Enable Transparency.
  4. Click Save changes.

USE GOOGLE CHROME. It owns Internet Explorer in nearly every facet.

Or, better yet, get rid of Aero altogether. It's a performance hog and not very attractive. When you make Seven look like Windows 2000 Professional, unsurprisingly, it performs a lot like it. Minus the superfluous visual junk, Seven can be quick, stable and very efficient.

off the chrome knob man, it's a no frills browser that is fast exactly becuase of that. If chrome get popular then coders will design spyware for it as well. And the second google starts adding to the browser, it will become more slow.

I tried every browser, and I can tell you, Internet Explorer is obviously slower than all the other browsers. My favorite is Firefox, but Chrome performs nice too.

Firefox 3.6 uses more RAM and on a netbook that's bad. I do agree the Chrome has the best UI for a small screen although I use F11 to expand IE 8. Definately think turning off some Aero effects makes thing run better.

This is about Aero and Windows Explorer, not Internet explorer you noobs. Chrome and Firefox are irrelevant to this article.
