Move the Temporary Internet Files Folder

By default Internet Explorer stores a user’s temporary internet files within a user profile typically located under C:\Users or C:\Documents and Settings. This setting can be easily be changed within Internet Explorer.

Configuring Temporary Internet Files in Internet Explorer:

When Internet Explorer is open, click on Tools and then select Internet Options. On the General tab, under Browsing history, click the Settings button.

Click Move folder…

Then select the new drive and folder you want to use and click OK to exit the property pages.

I went to download.com and got a high rated disk formater that I'm really happy with. Then followed these instructions and WOW! IE was never faster!

Actually, the idea behind moving/relocating your 'temp' files is to help decrease fragmentation on you Windows drive. True, a neglible speed increase, but every little bit helps and these are easy to move.

If you recently installed an SSD drive as your main hard drive, then moving the Temporary Internet Files folder to a non SSD will most likely extend the life of your SSD. The continuous function of writing temporary internet files and cookies will kill your SSD. Therefore, moving this folder to a traditional drive is wise move.
