Disable Network Printer Search

Published in Windows Vista Performance Tweaks by Steve Sinchak with 163,243 views and 4 comments

When browsing through shared folders and network computers Explorer can slow down when it is searching the local network for printers.  This sounds like a great feature and may be useful for some but I would rather disable it to get maximum performance when browsing through folders.

1. Hit Alt to bring up the menubar if it is not already on the screen.

2. Click on Tools and select Folder Options.

3. On the View Tab, uncheck Automatically search for network printers.

I am using Vista Ultimate and there is no such thing as "Automatically search for Network Printers" and there never has been. Why is there so much USELESS information on Tweakvista. this article is not the only one that is useless. there are many that can really Screw your computer up real bad. if your unsure if A) your system even has such things mentioned and B) are not sure if your system needs them. what I mean is the article about getting windows to not use some services to free up memory and cpu usage. well how does one know weather somethings are needed or not with lame non-plain English descriptions of WTF they are? it is articles like this one that make me afraid to do any of the tweaks I am scared of really messing up my system.
