Open regedit and browse to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel
Change the value for {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} to 1
Make sure you backup the registry before making changes.
