till 2006.
the claim is that:  to many people complained.

one could also speculate that it insures that they keep thier IE market, so people dont switch to a supported browser, when microsoft stops support. look at what MOST of the support for thier oses ends up being, the html programs.
and that people are still BUYING it in the store.   money speaks

OK, so i am Guessing, but i try hard

And there are those people that are familiar with the way everything works with 98, even the minor difference in XP are enough to confuse some people out there.

There are enough differences in the way that certain things are done in XP that some people might not be able to adjust to.

Others just may like having the real DOS around, instead of an emulated DOS command line.

(I admit, there were some problems that were easier to fix on 98 by rebooting and dropping to DOS.)

Also, some people may be iffy about the whole Activation thing.

Even if they have nothing to worry about; because they bought a legit copy, or it came with their PC.

And then there's those people with an antique computer that they can't upgrade, that can barely run 98. Let alone handle XP.

And of course, like you said: money speaks.

Cheers,

Josh

Well, Windows 98 is still a very good solid OS. You cannot really blame people not wanting to upgrade.

They shouldn't have made it so good lol...

I am sure you won't get the same reaction when they decide to stop supporting Windows ME.

Message boards all over would probably all shout: "THANK THE GODS!" when they finally dump ME

(ME=Major Error)

I installed it once.

I formatted and installed 2k the next day.

Cheers,

Josh

Was there an article by Microsoft announcing this continued support?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it.
