Sorry for the delay in replying to your last post, I've been making up my mind as to what to do with this computer. Since OS file corruption seems to be a recurring problem on this computer I would like to partition the disk and install the OS on its own partition while keeping applications and documents safe on a separate partition (maybe even one for each). My technical knowledge of computers is limited so I really don't know how plausible this sounds and to what extent this can provide a solution to the loss of files in the event that a format or OS clean install would be needed and also to prevent me from having to reinstall all other software every time my OS fails. Any advice and feedback on this idea is greatly appreciated.

Once again I would like to thank you very much for all the time and effort you have dedicated to finding a solution for my problem.
