The bult in webcam in the laptop don't seem to work is it because of a faulty driver or something to do with the hardware because when i lower the lid webcam light seem to turn on...

Based on the limited information you've provided there is no way to know. Please provide complete details about the problem including when and how you installed the camera, if it ever worked, if there are any errors in device manager, and exactly what happens when you try to use it.
