I couldn't get a search result to come back so I guess I will ask what I am sure is a question that has been asked before. I am looking to buy a 1TB hd and am asking which manufacturer to get it from. I appreciate the help.

Currently I'm using Hitachi 1 TB drives in 2 new computer builds. They seem fast and quiet. I suggest going to New Egg and/or Tiger Direct and reading actual user reviews about harddrives.

I tend to agree with "Village"
I have several different HD's, internal and external. I've never had a HD fail (knock on wood). I have an Acomdata external that is nearing 10 years of use. I have 3 HP OEM HD's, two of which are about 3 years old and 1 that is about 5 years old. I've never tried to determine who actually built them. I have two laptop HD's that I have put into external cases. Those laptop HD's were taken from the "junk" room at the company I worked for and have to be at least 5-6 years old. I have noticed Staples adverts for external 1TB HD's for as little as $89 in the past few weeks (probably "after rebate"). Seagate, Western Digital, Toshiba, Hitachi or any of the known brand names should prove satisfactory.
