XP Pro Network Connection Wizard inadvertently created a network gateway on my single machine for a shared network that does not exist. All efforts to delete (short of nuclear weapons and superheated ion beams) it have failed.
In Control Panel/Network Connections the Gateway icon appears whenever my LAN Local Area Connection is active. Disable my LAC and the Gateway icon disappears. Enable LAC and the Gateway reappears.
Right Click, "delete" is greyed out as an option.
Right Click, "disable" receives a popup saying the Gateway is in use and cannot be disabled while in use.
Right Click, "properties" shows a single page that says "This connection allows you to connect to the Internet through a shared connection on another computer." Click setting and a blank page appears for adding, editing and deleting services that others can use through the shared connection.
Already tried getting at it in SafeMode but the icon did not appear in Network Connections.

Try the following Techno:
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add or Remove Windows Components > click on Networking Services > click the "Details" button.
Uncheck "Internet Gateway Device",then OK your way out,restart your pc.
