To start the Windows Audio service go to Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services and set Windows Audio to Automatic. For anything else you need to provide a lot more details.

| Thanks for your quick reply. We have already tried that. It is already set to Automatic. Receive error message "Error 1059: Circular service dependency was specified." What other details do you require to help solve it? We also have some other symptoms. When the Windows wallpaper appears the following problems occur: - "Sync Windows Services stopped working and was closed"
- "Address a problem with External Hard Drive Software"
- Cannot access Power Options on Control Panel

What led up to this - what is different between the last time the system worked as expected and the first time it did not (new hw, sw, virus, error, etc)?

| We are not too sure. It's my son's laptop and he only told me today. It might be a driver file that has got currupted. Or it could be a virus from a file he downloaded. We were hoping you could shed some light on it. Previous times I have visited this forum, I've been asked to supply logfile from HijackThis. Computer is very slow.

You're describing more than one problem. I would not be surprised if it was malware. I'd post in the HiJack This Forum and ask RichieUK to take a look at it.
