WINDOWS 7 RC7100.
When I insert any discs into my optical drive, or USB devices such as flash drive, iPOD etc they no longer autoplay. With a disc in the optical drive if I go to Computer and double click to open I get the following error message;

"windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. you may not have the appropriate permissions to access them."
I can still access the drive if I right click and select open.
I have tried uninstalling in device manager, re-assigned another drive to F: and then reboot and let Windows rediscover my DVD drive. I also uninstalled Nero, run CCleaner, hijackthis, scan with Kaspersky etc
Thanks in advance for any help.
EDIT:
I did an upgrade to one of the newer versions of Win 7, possible 7227, but punkbuster would no longer work so I restored back to RC7100 using Win7 backup & restore, however, I am unsure if this coincided with the problem or not.

Try this:
Click Start/Control Panel/Autoplay
**Note**
If Control Panel is in "Category" view, switch to "Small icons" view.
Make sure the box "Use AutoPlay for all media and devices" is checkmarked.
If still no joy,in the "Media" list try playing with the default settings for each media type.
Click "Save" when you've done.
Autoplay Windows 7 [Google search]:

Hi RichieUK, thanks for your reply.
I have already tried that, just forgot to add it to my original post.
If I do a repair install off the Win7 RC7100 CD is it likely to repair the problem?
Another thing I did forget to mention, when I upgraded to 7227 then restored back to RC7100, my RAID storage permissions were all funny, I had to take ownership and reset them all to get them working back on my network, did wonder if it could be part of the same problem.

I just noticed something that I didn't try before.
If I double click with a DVD in the drive, the DVD plays, so it appears to be only music that gives up that message, and to be precise I haven't tried it with a data CD or CD with mp3s on.
I did install media monkey last week, but everything then decide that it wanted to play through that, no matter what I did with the settings, so I wonder if that could have been it?
