Hey guys. Recently I noted that I keep most of my passwords on an unprotected note pad file. Well I just deleted it, and saved it on my external drive. I want to still be able to access them, but if someone was to hack me and that was still there, well, I could be hacked out of my pants.
So I was wondering if there is any safe free service or trial I can use that perhaps I can later buy if I like it during the trial period. I need something that has password protection possibly so I can keep my passwords safe.

I downloaded Roboform again, but for some reason it's not working properly. When I select the toolbar to appear, only the search bar shows up. Not the "auto fill" buttons or anything.

Edit the roboform toolbar and add/remove the buttons you need. If that does not work, post back and I'll figure out where it stores the config data so you can reset it.

Just for the record, roboform only lets you do 10 passwords on the free version, so for the rest of the ones I have stored on a notepad file, can they be easily compromised without protection? I installed a new Vista firewall for protection, but I'm just curious if it's safe to store those passwords left on an unpassworded notepad file.

In Vista you can actually encrypt them. I don't have it installed at the moment, but see if you can right click and encrypt it.

For something portable I use a .pdf file that can be password protected to prevent opening. Adobe Acrobat has the feature, don't know about other PDF programs. But then Adobe Acrobat is expensive.

Yeah, I thought about using a pdf but I don't have Acrobat unfortunately. I'm really confused as to why the encrypt feature would be greyed out. I searched the net' for anyone having this issue and apparently it has something to do with 64bit users. I don't know what specifically or if there's a way around it.
