Well that's me just about out of suggestions, you could try uninstalling/reinstalling MS Office 2007.
Possibly a Repair Install of XP may help, you could try it.
Like yourself,i just can't understand how this has happened, maybe someone else may suggest other possibilities of fixing this issue.

| If Richie can't help it's not likely I can, but let's try something anyway.......... Do you have another system with Word installed? If so, can you copy the files from your system to that system and see if the files will open there? And I think you already tried to take ownership of each file in question, is that correct? Also, did anything odd happen with your system between the last time you opened those documents and the first time you couldn't (new sw, hw, virus, etc)?

The only other system I use is at my college, but they're also using Office 2007.
As for anything odd happening to my PC, the answer is "no". No viruses, no hardware changes, no software changes that I can remember.

Okay, I'll send you one of the files that I can't open and one file that I can open with my Office 2007 program.

Sorry to bring this back from the grave, but I kinda figured out why some of my files are locked somehow. I has to do with the files being locked with NTFS encryption. That's why some of my Word Documents are okay and some are locked. Regarding to those locked files, is there a way to unlock them?

Mahalos for the reply...I tried it, and it works Is there a method similar to this for the files within that folder?
