I still am starting computer in safe mode, when I do normal, it takes forever to load and it goes to other than administrator, and I can't get to administrator either. How do I delete all other users? I would like this to be clean as new, without any other users, if possible.

Follow the info in the link below to create a new Administrators account, then try logging into that account after a reboot.
How to create and configure user accounts in Windows XP:

GM.  Ok, I did the new account and it makes no real difference.  SHould I delete the old accounts and try te new one only?

It still takes forever trying to open in regular mode, but safe is much faster.  Any thoughts?  TY

What about some of the programs on the computer, maybe the culprit?

Thanks...anxious to hear from you.

Yes,try that.

Then try the following:
Disconnect from the internet.
Click on Start>Run,type msconfig then press OK
Under the 'Startup' tab uncheck EVERYTHING,then restart your pc.
If everything seems to be back to normal, start adding items/entries back by rechecking the boxes one at a time.
Restart your pc in between each one.
Using trial and error, keep doing that until you find the problem program/process.
*Note*
Don't forget to make sure your antivirus and firewall are running before you reconnect to the internet.

TY for the quick response.  I deleted all other admin accounts except the new on.  Also I shut down guest acct.  Then I did the msconfig proceedure and unchecked all the boxes.  Then the restart.  As of now it took more than 14 minutes to do that and the computer is still loading.  BTW, I have yet to connect it to the internet, all my responses and results of your directionsare posted with another computer.  It appears that unchecking and restarting had no positive effect.  What would you like to do next?  I hope your not getting tired of this one.

TY for hanging in...

If you're able i suggest you connect to the internet, and run this online scan:
Run F-Secure Online Scanner.
Note:
This scanner is for Internet Explorer only.
* Click on Online Services and then Online Scanner.
* Accept the License Agreement.
* Once the ActiveX installs, click Full System Scan.
* Once the download completes, the scan will begin automatically.
* The scan will take some time to finish,so please be patient.
* When the scan completes, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button.
* Click the Show Report button then copy and paste the entire report into your next reply.

Also post a new Hijackthis log.

Rats !!!  I have tried to load it (linksys) via "my computer", "add or remove programs...nothing seems to work to get the program to load...thus no internet as yet.....With theadd or remove program it goes to the drive with the cd, sees the setup.exe and thats it.....with the my computer, it reads the cd but when you click setup.exe it does nothing.

I hope you have something else up your sleeve...I hope, I hope, I hope

(I'm still trying to load the linksys to get on the internet though).  Is there any other way to load this? Even in safe mode I can't do it...boohoo is me.

Thanks

Sir, I have the disc for the linksys wireless but the issue is the computer will not read it to load it....I have tried both cd drives to no avail.  What can you suggest, if anything or is the a lost cause?  Would a format of the hard drive be in order?

I'm at a loss.....

Thanks

The Microsoft AutoPlay Repair Wizard scans your computer devices to find defective AutoPlay settings, and attempts to fix those it finds.
