After launching Ewido, you can select "Change state" to inactivate 'Resident Sheild' and 'Automatic Updates'. If you choose to do this, then right click on ewdio in the system tray and uncheck "Start with Windows" to keep it from running at startup.
Ewido is now a free trial product for 30 days and all the extensions of the full version will be activated. After the 30 day trial, these extensions ('Resident Shield' and 'Automatic Update') will be deactivated and the program will turn into a feature-limited freeware version. You can continue to use Ewido as an on-demand scanner (recommended) but you will have to manually update the definition files each time you scan. You can do this throught Ewido or download from here.
I have updated my Ewido Install and Scan Instructions for those who need more details.
