I am new to Windows Server and am trying to navigate my way around it without causing too much disruption to my colleges.

Our current setup is to have My Documents defaulting to a shared data storage area, and each user has a private directory which is accessed through a mapped drive.

This is causing all sorts of problems with people saving files. Now I know that this is just a training issue, however you know what people are like with new computers and all that.

We are trying to promote a sharing environment where we don't need to have private directories and everyone works from shared team directories., however in the meantime we want to "reassure" the staff that there data is safe and secure due to the nature of some of the information that.

Does anyone know if you can remove My Documents and just work with mapped network drives? I know we can change the target of my documents but I just wondered if we could go down this avenue.

Or indeed if anyone had any solutions that were better than this?

Also does anyone know how to change so that display settings are no longer locked and can be changed by the user logged in?
