Just my thoughts Russ. There are ways to remove the entry from Add/Remove but you might want to check with Dell Support first to find out exactly what it is. Let's hope 'The Dave' does indeed contact Dell Support, then we'll know for sure.

I purchased a brand new Dell Inspiron...and the first thing I did was to delete all the junk trial program files they sent us bundled in the HD... first one to go was AOL, I then went to msconfig and unchecked all the start-up files... my machine is faster now because it has less running programs’ freeing up lots of resources. While doing this I also discovered the 924PLC32 file in my ADD or Remove box with a size of 4,095.00 MB's (wow a monster)... I tried to delete it, but couldn't (same error as above). So I called Dell and after a heated discussion with a tech rep in India... I was told this file did not belong to Dell and they knew nothing about it (however all resources points to dell it even states in support info link to provide the Dell tech with the 924PLC32 number)... They told me the file was some kind of Spyware... But I disagree... I think this file is partioned into the hard drive or something because I can’t see the folder itself to make out what’s taking up the 4 gigs of HD space therefore I think it contains restore software like Ms Office, Windows XP pro, and or Home editions plus other stuff (imagine 4 gigs of compressed software) But they don't want us to know about it, because somehow someone will make them all work for free. I on the other hand don't need any of it because I already have everything I need. However I requested my Windows XP CD from Dell... I already have one. But sense I paid for this new laptop I might as well get everything associated to it. My next step is to do an FDISK and format my drive with WIN XP Prof. If at the end I need any video card, sound drivers I can always download these from Dell. But for now I want my 4 gigs of real estate back. IF YOU OWN A DELL LAPTOP OR PC WITH THIS HUGE 924PLC32 FILE YOU SHOULD COMPLAIN TO DELL ABOUT IT AND REQUEST THE BACKUP RESTORE INFORMATION ON A DISK. NOT YOU’RE HARD DRIVE!!!!! 1-800-624-9896

Good advice Miami_Heat_32. All evidence does point to Dell. And if enough consumers complain, they will be prompted to take action just like they did with MySearch [aka Myway, MyWeb] when it came pre-installed on new Dell pcs in November 2004.

Download and run the free trial of TreeSize-Pro: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/File-Management/TreeSize-Pro.shtml Using the ‘Pie Chart’ view, navigate to: 924PLC32 'if possible'. Once found, keep double clicking on it,that will break it down into smaller segments. Eventually, hopefully,Notepad will open containing some code and text. Can you get any info from that regarding 924PLC32.

| Richie posted something to try to delete the 924plc32 on 3/7/06 and I tried that will just a couple different steps and it WORKED!! It is gone from my computer and I have shut down and when it is booted up again it is still gone for over a week now!! Try it and let me know if it works for you as well....it should! Click on Start, go to run and type Regedit and press enter... You are now in the Registry Editor.....Click on Edit and then find...it will then say find what? type in 924plc32 and hit find next and wait while it searches through the registry. Once it is found, simply right click on it and click delete.....and its gone.... My daughter has noticed a speed difference in her computer (she says), I am not so sure on that but I know it is gone the whole 4000 +/- MB. Let me know of any success or failures with this.

Hello, all. Long time reader, just created an account.
Sorry to revive a dead thread, but as of December '05, Dell was still installing this and disavowing all knowledge of it. How very irresponsible of them to not train their support personnel on a 4.something GB file. Anyhow, I finally decided to risk removing it via REGEDIT, and my computer is faster to a degree that can only be described as HILARIOUS. Anyhow, wish me luck on my computer not bursting into flames in the next few days.
After all, I do have a Dell laptop with a Sony battery.
Feel free to drop me a line if anyone has issues with this, or if anyone wants to know if my computer eventually broke by doing this.
