I'm using Barton 2800+ with a 166 MHz frequency.

Can i change that to 200 without problems or is it too high ?

Thanks again for your help

133 to 150 was rarely possible without extreeme cooling, and then all it was was hope to even accomplish a boot, or squeeze it up in software to post some results to make believe it was possible stabily.
nobody ever got the computer to work perfect at that, unless they turned 6 other things down so low there was no benifit.
5 seconds after they might squeeze out a benchmark that dint crash they went to do a REAL task, and cant understand why MSOSes are such junk

so i say no, it isnt logical that you would get any kind of usefull stability, prior to it flaking out completly. its already pushed, and that would be to high a percentage.

do you have one of them freon cases ??

http://www.cpudatabase.com/CPUdb  in the second section you can select an barton 2800.   sombody did it, but i would like to see their computer actually do something more than show cute numbers.

OK, so i am Guessing, but i try hard

Thanks PsycoGeek

I don't have a freon case, i cool with the AMD fan that i received with the processor itself and it's already at 50 Celsius.

I was just wondering if it was possible to put the CPU at 200 because that is the last option that i have in the BIOS.

Thanks again for your time.

sometimes you can get different bioses, which are about as dangerous :-)   if the divider chip is capable of it, and  the bios the manufacturer put on doesnt allow it.   These OCable bioses will put in a few more STEPS to the top.   but often it is limited by the multiplyer devider chip on the motherboard, not the bios itself.

Thanks again,

I'll wait and see if there's anything i can do with it. I don't want to overclock my CPU, it's running @ 2.079 like it should so i'm happy with it.

The only change that i'm planning to do is to remove the AMD cooling fan and use my SLK 800 with a Stealth Tornado fan (80mm) to try to cool it down a bit more.

The Bartons were "made" to overclock easily, and it actually comes down to the board how stabily your system will run.  The most important thing (next to temps) in order to run at 200Mhz is to make sure that no other things are overclocked in the process; oftentimes, the AGP is overclocked simultaneously causing most of the problems.

A friend of mine did some testing with a Barton and I *think* he mentioned Abit as the clear "winner" but it was a couple of months ago already.

As far as your temp goes...

I think 50 is too high in most circumstances.  I'm at 48 now but we are in a hot period over here and almost broke our "record" from the 1940s.

Tom,

It's hot and humid here, we had rain for more then a week and now the sun is back with 100% humidity so really unconfortable.

Thanks for the info on overclocking. I didn't think that it was overclocking since the option @ 200 MHz is there in the BIOS. I don't really want to overclock so i'll forget about playing with the configuration.

My AGP is not suppose to be overclocked because i did not change any configuration regarding it but i'm not sure about that.

Thanks again and have a good day

I found that setting System Performance to Aggressive in the BIOS to be the best setting for my machine.  The default Optimal caused overall system slowness for me.  Aggressive is an ever so slight overclock, but it was also the only way for me to bring the speeds of my FSB and memory (DDR 2700) into sync.  (In order to achieve your best stock speeds, you should bring your FSB and RAM to equal speeds.  So if you are running faster RAM than I, DDR 3200, for example, you're gonna want to bring your memory speeds down from 400 to 333.  Or, conversely, you could bump your FSB up to 400—but you mentioned you don't want to do that.)
