Just wondering who's playing HL2 and what your thoughts are.

I'm a casual gamer myself, that is, I don't feel the need to game every day. But Half-Life 2 is different. I play this game in my sleep! It's the whole package IMO; graphics, sound, physics,  gameplay, weapons, enemies, environment, etc. All superb. The "Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator" or "Gravity Gun" has got to be one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a game.

Loving it!

Single player is absolutely amazing.  I won't waste time repeating anything the dozens of reviews online have already said.  It really is awesome.  Counterstrike: Source is also amazing.  They took a game that I already loved and made it look ten times better (and flashbangs really work now).  It's like comparing X-box to Super Nintendo.

I could go on and on, but I won't waste anybody's time.  If you don't have it, get it.  It really is the best game I have ever played.

One complaint, I wish it had come on one or two DVDs instead of five CDs.

The game is superb and runs flawless on Ray’s machine. It took over 2 weeks to download; glad that’s over and he can enjoy what he paid for.

After having said that, it’s the last game we will buy from Valve, as long as they continue with this paranoid infringement on our rights... through Steam.

I don't know why everyone's so bent out of shape over Steam. They don't ask for any more personal info than a forum or free email service might, and once you're registered it's possible to play offline if you like. It seems like any time a software developer takes measures against pirating people see it as an infringment on their rights or privacy, why is that? I myself like the fact that my HL2 will be patched automatically every time a new version is released. Downloading HL2 MP a few days ago was a nice little surprise too. I don't care if Valve knows my name, address and DOB.

I think Steam is only the beginning. Like it or not, a lot of other game developers are going to follow suit, you'll see.

Well, 5 cds, and 2 weeks of downloading, and never being able to really own the game you pay for is an infringement. That’s not being bent out of shape, that’s being an unsatisfied customer.

One thing’s for sure, technology advances every day and you’re right about piracy; it’s a crime that needs strict attention.  I just don’t like the Steam direction and won’t be buying any more games of that nature.  I don’t like having to prove I am not a thief.

I think you’re absolutely right. So I will enjoy these last days of simplicity, buy the game, install full version of game from cd, play. No more internet frisking for me.

"I don’t like having to prove I am not a thief."

I'm with you there, it's a sad state of affairs for sure. Like so many other things in life, a few idiots ruin it for the rest of us.

Innocent until proven guilty seems to have been lost on Steam developpers....

Also, in a way, these measures only serve to fuel the pirating.  Seeing new advancements in anti-pirating technology only causes hackers to develop new, more advanced, counter measures.  Its a vicious cycle really.  But its almost like the old example of trying to be a good parent and thus completely and utterely restricting their access to something such as alcohol.  Studies have shown that kids raised in these homes are more likely to abuse the alcohol than are kids who have been exposed to it (reasonably of course). Anyhow, sorry for the tangent.

p.s. Half life 2 RULES... i wish more good sp maps were available.  They're fun .
