We recently lost power and the computer shut down, and I believe restarted with a power surge. I tried to use system restore to take it to a point prior to the storm, to no avail. The desktop looks normal with the exception of a black vertical bar running on the right side of the monitor. If I open a browser, the same black bar reappearson the right side, and I loose the left side of the window(back and forward buttons, file menu, favorites). I do not know if this is a result of a virus or a setting that was altered during the power surge.

Can you help?

Need to know what is in registy

HI! everyone please explaint to me what is :HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MimarSinan .....

Sorry my english thankyou in advance

cant change themes, visualization, screensaver.. also my windows indexing missing?

when i click them it just do nothing.. like nothing is appearing on screen.. it has no effect

the other is my computer cant find indexing opyions when i search it.. tnx for help

Windows 7 theme for VIsta

I followed the procedure on the tweakvista site for applying a windows 7 theme to vista. I installed vistaglazz, set that up, rebooted, and patched the files. At this point it was working perfectly, the transparency was set up and it looked great. I downloaded the windows 7 theme from deviantart, applied the windows7.msstyles theme. The theme is installed properly, it is on here and looks fine, but the transparency isn't working now. Any ideas on how to fix this? I tried unapplying and reapplying the patch in vistaglazz and that doesn't help any. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Renaming a C Drive

I normally use XP but it was behaving a little strange so I decided to set up a dual boot system with Vista Ultimate. I'm still not sure I like Vista enough to use it regularly, but I'm willing to give it a chance. The problem I want to correct is in the XP setup I have ( or had ) 6 logical drives on one 100G HD. I shrunk the H drive to install Vista and in XP everything is fine. That is, C_XP has the OS ( XP ), and D through H are just as before, with and additional C_Vista drive. The problem comes when I boot into Vista. There the OS is on C_Vista, but C_XP becomes the D Drive and all the other drives are shifted. I was able to change all the other drives back to their " XP identities" but the C_XP drive will not allow me to rename it. The result is that my "XP D Drive" has to be given the letter Q ( or whatever ) which fouls things up when I switch back and forth between the OS's. Does anyone have an idea how to rename the C_XP drive to any other letter other than D??

Thanks,

Dan

how change the colour

how i can change this sysyem colour

Vista Toolbar Impossible Mission?

Not sure this is the right place to ask this because it is more about Vista concept than any specific tweak.

I right click on the Taskbar, select Toolbars/New Toolbar and a navigation box opens to allow me to follow a path to where I am going. In this example, I want to go to
C:/Docs &Settings/Technosaur/StartMenu/Programs and a folder that I call "Writers" where I keep shortcuts to all my text applications. That way I can access any of my word processing and editing tools from the regular START at the bottom left or from a Taskbar toolbar at the bottom right.

Except, you can't navigate into Docs & Settings (XP) because in Vista it is hidden. Dead end. I know how to un-hide it and get there and accomplish the mission. But I am wondering if I am missing something. Is there some other Vista way of doing this and other tweaky missions, or is this a basic WTF in the Vista interface concept?

In general I like Vista. It is not the awful critter that so many reviews claimed. As a professional writer, I am often told I should go to much more text and graphic friendly Mac. But Apple gear is too expensive for me considering how hard I am on hardware in my frequent travels to harsh environments. Vista is actually much more friendly for me in a Mac sort of way than XP (which I loved) was - once I get it tweaked to my own particular needs. But (unless I am wrong and missing a Vista concept) tweaking my way to that custom setup is a stone cold (self-censored).

Can anybody out there do a Jeddi mind thing and open my eyes to the Vista?

How to adjust Log Off/Shutdown?

Hello, Tweakers :)

Two days ago I became a Vista Home Premium user. Did not want to give up my XP Pro that I learned to love with the wonderful assistance and education I got here at TweakXP, but I had no choice, and my impression (once I got past the graphic shock) is very good.

Ok, the Question: I am the only user and am administrator. Guest account is Off. The log on is smooth (yeah, i know the risk of always being in administrator mode). BUT logging off is click click intensive. I click Shutdown, I get a menu, I select shutdown or restart, and then I have to click okay to that... In XP that could all be adjusted thru Users (How Users log on/off). I do Not see that type of option in Vista Users. HOW do i adjust this? I do not want a scroll menu opening. More like the old XP showing two icons: Shutdown and Restart.

Been a while since the XP days and daze. For those who do not know me, the name Technosaur does not imply a technical giant. It means: technical dinosaur. I am from the times when sending text to the printer meant handing sheets of paper to a Linotype operator. Photocopying had not been invented yet, and phones were all black boxes with rotary dialing.

How can I speed up the turn off of vista?

How can I disable the confirmation dialog that says:"following programs are still running please save you prgrams ...etc"
so it just closes the programs automatically without asking me for a confirmation. My computer freezes constantly at start up. Maybe 9 out of 10 times it will freeze up and require me to restart it over and over again to get it going. My main biggie is that it has an onboard intel graphics card (Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD). Any ideas on how to get the best performace on it to be able to play games like counter strike? I know Sony doesn't have the best graphics card in their laptops so hopefully you guys can point me to the right direction.

Specs:

Sony Vaio
Intel® Centrino 2.0ghz
4gigs of ram
windows vista 64bit
220gig harddrive

thanks

Permanently hide the "Safely Disconnect" Icon from the taskbar

One more question...

My laptop uses an internal USB connection for the optical drive, so I always have the "safely remove device" icon displayed on the taskbar.

Is there a way to deactivate the icon?

I know I can hide it by going through the taskbar, but that only hides it off to the side behind the toggle arrow. I'd like to get rid of it permanently.

Thanks,
M

Classic Start Menu ordering?

I can't seem to figure out how to change the order that my programs appear in using the 'Classic' start menu.
