Hi There everyone!

I am ranger72 and I found this forum after purchasing Steve Sinchack's "Hacking Windows XP" a very nice book and I'm looking forward to using the material in the book to change my Welcome Page and Logon Page and a few other things in my Win Xp Pro OS.

I am a hobbyist only, as it applies to computers, and I have no formal training with these wonderful machines but I have been playing with them since 2002 and have built a home network which now consists of 4 machines; 2 desktops along with a Dell Laptop and an Apple notebook. I am hooked to internet through a secured wireless linksys router via satellite dish.

Everything I have learned regarding confuser's has been as a result of my travels on the Internet. So here is the beginning of another internet journey and I hope to learn something here and to also give back to the forum by helping when I can.

Hi folks,

I am a new member here, probably reasonably experienced, used to be IT professional before re-training to do what i do now.

Usually a linux man these days, but the family PC remains on Windoze and needs lots of attention - so here I am!

Hi,
I would consider myself either a beginner or a novice when it comes to computers. I am currently using Windows XP and want to make sure that I don't have any nasty viruses. My computer has not had any serious viruses, that I know of, since August 2008. I have been using Avira, Avast, AdAware, Malwarebytes, ZoneAlarm, and some other programs for viruses and security.

I have already downloaded HijackThis, ATF-Cleaner, and SuperAntiSpyware to scan my computer.

Also, I would like to learn more about the Windows OS, anti-virus programs, firewalls, cleaning the system registry, optimizing my computer, freeing up more RAM, and tweaking my computer. :cool:

Hello,

I have been using computers and programmable calculators since 1967. I have experience in building and modifying systems from the case, motherboard, and up. The current systems I have are HP Pavilion, Acer Aspire, and some I built on ASUS P4P800 and P4V8X motherboards using Pentium 4 at 3.0 and 3.5 GHz, with at least 2 GB RAM, XP Pro - Service Pack 3.

hi all

i hope i can get some help hear firstly to introduce myself i am 64 and have had a pc for about three years i am willing and trying to learn al the time and that is were i get into trouble i downloaded tweakxp and tried to use it to speed my pc up that was the start of my troubles i have either ticked or unticked the boxes i should not have done but i do not know which ones they were now my user account side of the pc will not allow me access to anything it keeps coming up

this opperation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer please contact your system administrator

it does not effect my wife's user account side of the pc i have tried to do system restore but it only does one side and not mine

i hope this makes sense to someone i am badly in need of help anyway thanks for your time

i dont think this is a tech. question lol. but im pretty much an UBER:hehe:NOOB when it comes to customizing anything other than windows blinds ... and i dont know what half the stuff means for the tweaks.. maybe someone could post a dictionary of what commonly used technical terms mean?!? it'd be great so i know whats being talked about :-P
