Undeletable and unrenamable folder/file

Installed Windows 7 RC Build 7100 with Vista present and this left a folder labeled Windows.old. I took some stuff that I found I needed from it, and deleted the entire folder. But. The folder and some of its sub-folders remained.

Drill down and ultimately you come to two 0 kb file with no extensions labeled with what looks like Coptic script, in a SecuROM folder. These files cannot be renamed and cannot be moved and cannot be deleted - you get a dialog box saying they are no longer located in the directory. The folders can be renamed and moved but not deleted [Windows 7 always says they aren't where they are].

Is there a way to delete these files, and thus the folders?

Hi There..

Yesterday my comp went totally wacky. (Been trying to sort it since)

Did a system Restore.. Not any better.

I uninstalled windows IE8 And was gonna reinstall it.

Problem!! I now cant istall anything .. I have also noticed some of my Icons have turned to arrows and do nothing now.

Also On the status bar at the bottom of the comp next to the picture of the world and the word internet.. There is another picture appeared that looks like a webpage with a cross in a red circle .. I Thaught maybe that was something to do with it..

I Ran Avira and antispyware and there was no virus detections.

Was not sure if to post here first or do a HijackThisThread Log..

Folder Scrolling Issue

Specifically, my MP3 folder.

1000's of MP3's.

Arranged by name.

Just browsing, scrolling to the right. Let's say, I get as far as the "D" section. I'm there, just looking thru, when all of a sudden, it scrolls all the way back to the left on it's own.

Very annoying.

Any suggestions?

My Pc does not feel well

Hi All,

I have read through some other post's but seeing as everybody has different Pc's with different things on it I now have to ask.

Ok all of a sudden my pc feels sick & slow, i mean slow when I open programmes,internet explorer....adobe's....

I have run my anti v (NOD 32) & it did not pick up anything.I have also run - Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware & got rid of the malaware.

Mainly when I use internet explorer the pc goes very slow, I have run the browser test (under richieUk's name) & passed it.I dont know if my internets slow or hwat :S (would a slow internet connection effect internet explorer that badly)

Also when I stream things the video hangs and goes off sync with audio almost like it cant take it but before it could. I have updated my flash & java but still no joy.

I notice when I press ctrl alt del, my 'system Idle process' is always 95-99 and 100 dont know if thats meant to be like that.

I dont think upgrading the ram is the problem as this has just happened out of the blue and I think i just need you lovely peoples help :D
to find the problems & deleate them .

specs

windows xp pro 2002, service pack 3
Pentium 4 cpu - 2.53 Ghz
1.50 gb of ram.

Shortcuts are hanging system

1 of the folders in the system had many shortcuts inside the folder, while trying to open the folder system use to hang ..so i deleted shortcuts 1 by 1 to find out which shortcut was giving problem in the folder but didn't find the shortcut which was giving the problem ..

what may be the reason for this hang.

if I use right click & explore it opens, but if I directly click on folder it take at least 5 minutes to open the folder.

How to find out which shortcut is giving problem. all shortcuts--destination paths are available.

But there is no problem with other shortcuts which is inside other folders..

tried attaching shortcut.zip here but page was giving some problem

Screen Goes Blank while opening some app

Screen Goes Blank while opening some app ( but not issue with all application )..but again screen comes back to normal...video drivers are uptodate...changed the monitor, changed the screen resolution & frequency but still problem persists..

what may be the problem ????

Hey folks,

I have a standalone XP box that I need to bolt down a bit. The machine is the 'family' PC but because of the work I do a number of folk use it.

I use the OpenDNS servers as they are faster and provide a very good level of security and filtering. However I noticed the other day that someone had reset the DNS server setting in the TCP/IP dialogue for the NIC to get around the OpenDNS filtering.

Is there a way to lock out the 'network places' settings - in particular the IP and DNS settings so they stay as they are, but users cannot change them. Perhaps a regedit I could use?

100% CPU Usage & Insufficient Shutdown

Hello,

I am using a PC running Windows XP Home Edition SP3 which is having a couple of problems that I cannot seem to solve. After struggling with it and getting no where decided to post it on this forum, hoping that someone will be able to help me out.

1.CPU usage is at 100% but the PC is not paging. Have 512 MB RAM and looked in the task manager where it shows that I have quite a bit to spare.

2.The computer does not shut down properly. When I choose to shutdown it will remove all icons, taskbar, etc... from the screen and then it will just sit there indefinitely, which gives me no choice but to force a shutdown.

I have already tried to do the following which did not seem to help.

- Disk Defragment
- Disk Cleanup
- chkdsk /r /f
- sfc /scannow
- AVG 8.5 and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Scan
- Registry Clean
- Checked for Driver updates
- Cleared the old page file and then reset it to System Managed Size (Still - getting alerts that system is low on virtual memory)
- Removed all non-crucial startup items and services

Still having these problems. This Computer had crashed so had to do format & reinstall, just started using it again r reloading the OS so not sure why all this is happening.

Any advice would be very, very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hello, hope you guys can help me. I am running XP and in the last 2 days have experienced issues. I run Ad Aware, Spybot S&D, Spyware Blaster and sygate personel firewall. I am always updating them too. Now for some reason, the computer boots slow, I get pop ups and the programs load slow too. Also Ad Aware and Spybot do not run well anymore. They take forever to do brief scans. I'm not sure what happened and hope you guys can please direct me as to what to do.

Error keeps popping up & a bunch of windows keep opening..

I have 2 problems for the past 2 days..

1) Sometimes when I open a window, or even when I dont open one, a bunch of windows open up.. like 6, 7 or so.

and..

2) An error keeps popping up, like every 15 mins or so. This is what it says when it pops up:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/IEXPLORE.EXE

What can I do to stop them from happening? Anything I can do? Thanks if someone can help :)

Internet Explorer Fails To Appear

Can you help?

I downloaded the MSN update for Internet Explorer 8 and decided I did not like it. So I restored the PC to an earlier date. I noticed it was OK but items on the address bar had been removed so I restored again to a few days earlier than this and now I have nothing when I click on the IE Icon.

I have tried to repair with the XP disc, but no change.

Any advice would be appreciated.

BSOD when installing XP Pro

I just bought a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. It came with Win Vista Home Basic, which I intended to format and start over using XP Pro. I have used the Vista version for a few days, so I know everything appears to be working. Today I have tried to install XP, but I get the BSOD. This happens after XP loads and copies the files. BTW, I have tried several copies of XP (original disk, nLite modded disk, copy of original, etc) and I get the same thing.

Here is the error message at the bottom of the screen:

Any ideas what this means?
